At Restore Integrative Health and Weight Loss, we understand the challenges behind losing weight. It's not as simple as what your healthcare provider may have told you: just eat less and move more. It often takes getting to the ROOT cause of why the weight is there in the first place.
It wasn't a quick journey to get here, and it's not a quick journey to get to the place you want to be. Sometimes medications can be a helpful tool depending on what we discover in your journey, and can be added to the functional medicine programs.
The medications we may add are featured below:
Semaglutide is an injectable medication used for diabetes, but also used for weight loss. It is a glucagon-like peptide (GLP-1) receptor agonist, meaning it acts like a hormone made in your intestines that stimulates the pancreas to make insulin and stops the liver from releasing stored glucose. It also slows down stomach emptying, decreasing the rate that glucose gets into your bloodstream, and also causing you to feel fuller longer. All of these mechanisms can help lead to weight loss.
Common side effects are nausea, vomiting, constipation, GERD, and abdominal pain.
More serious side effects include pancreatitis, cholecystitis, and intestinal blockage.
It should not be used in anyone with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid cancer
Daily oral therapy helpful for craving control and appetite suppression
